The University of Saint Francis wants to ensure you have all the tools you’ll need to be successful while you’re here. The Student Success and Academic Advising Center does this by providing quality services and support delivered within the context of the university’s Franciscan values. All resources and assistance are available to you at no extra cost.
If you have any questions related to your academic success, the Student Success and Academic Advising Center is a great place to look for answers. We offer tutoring and study skills resources, academic progress mentoring (MAP), and make up testing services. In addition, student disability services for students with documented and disclosed disabilities are administered through our department. Other services include case management when personal emergencies with the potential for academic impact arise.
The center regularly employs peer tutors to help other University of Saint Francis students in specific courses. We make an effort to provide free tutoring in general education courses in which students historically face challenges.
Mentoring for Academic Progress
If you are facing potential academic challenges, the Mentoring for Academic Progress (MAP) program is for you. You will participate in MAP if you are admitted directly into the program or if you are placed on academic probation. Together, we will work one-on-one to make sure you have the information, tools, and accountability that will contribute to a positive academic experience.
Student placement in USF reading, writing, and math classes is determined by SAT/ACT scores. If such test scores are not available, you may be asked to take a battery of placement tests in the Student Success and Academic Advising Center.
Plan to allow a minimum of an hour and half when scheduling those placement tests. (If you need to take a language placement test, additional time will be needed. Ask for specifics when you call to schedule your appointment.)
If you are placed in a reading class (READ 101, 119, 120, or 121), you are encouraged to make an appointment to take the Nelson-Denny Reading Test in the Student Success and Academic Advising Center before the semester begins in order to confirm your reading class placement level or eligibility to waive the course.
Test scheduling is requested 24 hours in advance of your desired testing time and may be done by calling 260.399.8065 or coming to Pope John Paul II Room 210.
